Throughout school he always scared me, until I finally had him as a teacher in my 5th year to study Higher English. Although very strict, he was the exact teacher I needed to push me. Without him I would never have achieved my A.
Although he was never my 'official' English teacher, Mr Hodgart encouraged me to read literature when I decided not to continue with English in 6th Year at secondary school. My main memory is that he gave me 'Life of Galileo' by Brecht to read and which I very much enjoyed. Subsequently, as a student at Glasgow University, I had the opportunity to see this play. It was a brilliant and very moving performance and was something that I would have never considered going to see but for Mr Hodgart.
Obsessed with scottish literature, unfortunately unable to discern between good or bad. Very strict and not easy to talk to. There is a big world out there, we shouldn't miss out on the big picture fo
Absolute classic of a teacher, helpedme more than any other teacher I had.
the guy is hilarious!! one of the funniest teachers in the school. MQOS - Renfield funniest thing ever, hes very biased and thats annoying but hes also a great teacher. he helps alot with essays too
Does not teach very well at all; constantly on tangents about unrelated things. I'm going to fail English because of him.
Scottish fan! Makes you do to much work! 3 essays in 1 week!
Fantastic teacher. His classes were relaxed, engaging and most of all enjoyable to be in. Many topics do have a scottish bias, but this makes them even better. While other people are sturggling to relate to shakespear, Mr Hodgart is taking you through a burns poem, with passion and a unique undersanding of what was happening in the world around the poet. I just hope theres no mistakes in this....
Good teacher, definately knows what he is talking about, without him I would never have been able to pass my english higher.
a teacher who deserves alot of respect. the man knows what hes talking about. However he has a highly scottish biased, but this is due to his school life where all you learned was shakespeare & other english poets. Cant blame him for being proud. He can also be extremely childish, & huffy.
When he reads from a book, he tends to whisper and it's really annoying if you're up the back of the class.
total scotland fanatic, what and how he teaches is usually pretty good but he tends to boycott anything not written by a scot, and frankly im getting bored of rabbie burns.
